This was quite a fun project, I have to say and I will try and keep this blog running but I can't promise anything. Very clever idea, Nick! Everyone had wonderful blogs and did a fantastic job! Now I can proudly say that I know how to make a blog. (Oh, god I am so sad...hahaha)

Sylvia Plath

I was searching on the internet for some good dark poetry and I thought of Slyvia Plath. She doesn't necessarily write all dark humor but a lot of it is quite dark and she is really an amazing poet. So if you guys want to check out some of her work, heres the link...

Sylvia Plath Poetry

Dark humor in poetry

This is a type of poetry, I myself, have never really explored but it is a fairly popular genre of poetry. Dark humor is written more from the inside and not hiding all those dark feelings we have in our everyday life. Black humor establishes this poetic voice thats incredibly independent on those who write in this context. In order to understand dark humor to it's full extent, you need to experience both the horror and the humor of a situation simultaneously and that both views equal claims on the viewer's imagination. Dark poetry is something thats very iffy to many people. I mean when you finish reading a piece of dark poetry sometimes you wonder why you find this so hilarious. Thats the beauty of it! Somethings in life you just can't explain especially examples like these...When you read something so depressing and so sad but yet you find yourself finding it quite funny. Thats dark humor for you!

If any of you have any ideas about what I have just said or just have different opinions or want to discuss it, feel free!

Humorous Poetry

When someone (i.e. my teacher) tells me that we will be focusing on poetry, I honestly cringe because when I think of poetry, I think of boring! My whole point of my blog is that no matter how boring poetry can be, it can also be extremely fun to do. That is, if you use humour! I mean of course there is that ultra-cheesy crap out there that I wouldn't consider poetry but I'm talking about hilarious, nonsense poetry. Like some of the big guys wrote ( Lewis Carroll, Dr Seuss, etc.) Thats the kind of poetry I like. I really got a sense for how imaginative their minds were and they could get past reality and step into fantasy. I find that really cool!

Now heres a thought... Why do you think people choose to write about depressing things or as they call it "life itself" instead of writing about things that make people smile. I mean I would rather use my imagination and write about something totally bonkers than write about how life is so shitty, blah, blah, blah! I don't know what you guys think, if I'm just not making any sense or if you guys feel the same way. I would appreciate if you guys would discuss this with me!

Humor in Poetry

All my life, poetry has never been something I have really been interested in but of course I have had to deal with it during elementary school and highschool. So during those years, to get through it, I have often read, wrote and been interested in poems that aren't depressing and dark and have a message so hidden that it would take you hours to figure out what the hell you're reading. I like poems with a story, that have character and most of all have some humor. Even though I'm not quite the poet myself, I will be reviewing poems that are anything from hilarious to heart-warming. I'm just not down with the whole depressing, sad, theme. So..enjoy!

Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll

I figured why not look up some famous poets and I remembered that one of the first poems I was ever told was this one written by Lewis Carroll. It is considered to be the greatest nonsense poem written in the English language. The poem is particularly interesting because, although it contains many goofy words, the structure of the poem is conistent with classis English poetry. One of the reasons I loved this poem is how much my imagination wondered when I was told this poem. Of course, I didn't get it when I first heard it but it just seemed so magical and crazy but yet so inventive and clever. For those who have never read this poem, I urge you to because it truly is such an amazing poem!

Nothing is bad poetry...

As long as you write and it means something to you...
No matter if its boring or dry or doesn't rhyme...
It's still poetry just like a red box on a black canvas is still art...
Everything is relative...
It all depends on you and your feelings.

Six-Step Recipe to Success

While searching the internet, I stumbled upon a website with a interesting view on success. I don't know whether to agree on it, or think its a load of crap. This makes it seem all too simple and I thought I would bring this up because success is a huge accomplishment whatever you are trying to succeed in and if these 6 steps are suppose to help us achieve it, then we obviously don't have to do as much work as I thought we would! Very, very positive....

I mean if I would have to criticize it, I would say that it's a very silly idea but she does describe its uses very well! Besides, a George Foreman grill is a very handy thing to have! Anyways, just thought I would mention it, and if you guys want to take a look, heres the link:

Good Poetry

I thought I would post right now because when I was going through some of our classmates poetry blogs, I came across one, that had a poem that was so vivid and interesting that I had to just mention it on my blog. On Anna's blog there is a beautiful poem written by William Shakespeare called Sonnet 116. Not only was the poem amazing but the way Anna described it, made you want to read it even more! So I encourage all of you to take a look at this poem on Anna's blog.

For those of you, who don't know the link to Anna's blog...here it is!

Small Poems

I really like this website, titled "Small Poems," for a number of reasons. The way the website is set up is very attractive and makes you want to read what is on the website. As well, I like how the poems are divided in to the four seasons of the year (fall, winter, spring, and summer). When going through the poems, I really thought the author illustrated the seasons very well , making these poems enjoyable to read. I personally enjoyed the poem about spring because I liked all the descriptive words the author used, giving me a real feel to what spring is all about. I thought this was a great site and I advise you to check it out!

Land of Dreams

I found a poetry blog that I thought had some very beautiful poetry. A lot of it is about love, dreams, heartbreak, etc. If I were to write poetry, that would be things I would write about and I feel that this is a very different area for this female author to explore but I also feel that writing about love is alot easier to do because it really just comes out...So I feel I really connected with this author because what she has written is stuff that I relate to, in a weird way. My two favorites from this site are, the Land of Dreams and Teaching to Love. The author of these poems seemed to be telling a story through her poems and thats the kind of poetry I like. It felt real to me...Don't get me wrong, its very mushy!!!

I came across this man's blog and I don't necessarily think its the best quality when it comes to poetry but I do find it absolutely hilarious! The link is: http://www.marcgunn.com/poetry/ and the things he chooses to write about are hilarious. For example, one of them is him advertising for you to "buy me a drink today" and cats getting drunk. Its very interesting...
